Bishop's Stortford LibDems Say Canine Facility Should Not Be A Priority

2 Aug 2010

Bishop's Stortford Liberal Democrats have slammed the use of tax-payers' money on a new dog training facility that opened in Southern Park on 27th July. If we were in a time of affluence, and not in a recession, the training course would be useful and fun both for the dogs and their owners - and the LibDems may well have backed it.

But we ARE in a recession and this Council has acknowledged the fact by telling us that we must tighten our belts and expect some cuts in a number of the key services it provides.

Councillor Mrs. Mione Goldspink (Bishop's Stortford Central) commented, "This is a ridiculous way to spend tax-payers' money - it is 'barking mad' in my opinion. When you consider the current economic situation and the need for the Council to make cuts it seems very odd to get rid of the Dog Warden, who performed a very useful service but to find the money to fund a comical canine facility."

She continued, "The decision to pay for this dog course was taken by the Conservative Executive members - it was never discussed with back-bench members. If had been discussed by them, I am sure the outcome would have been different."
