May 5th 2011 Local Elections

18 Jul 2011

The elections on May 5th were, to say the least, disappointing for the Lib Dems in Bishop's Stortford.

At District level, Bishop's Stortford has thirteen seats on the Council. The LibDems now have only one of those, held by Cllr Mike Wood who retained his seat in All Saints Ward. However, we sadly lost Mione Goldspink after 20 years representing the people of Stortford. Mione lost her seat in Central Ward as did Bob Taylor. In All Saints Ward we also lost the seat vacated by Andy Graham, who did not seek re-election after 16 years.

At Town Council level, we lost Central Ward's Bob Taylor, after 12 years on the Council. We also lost the seats of Andy Graham in All Saints Ward and Calvin Horner in Central Ward, neither of whom had sought re-election.

Despite polling 22% of the vote at Town level, we finished up with just one seat

Another example of the unfair electoral system… We received 22% of the vote and ended up with 5% of the seats!
